Information about the service home särkiniemi

The service home Särkiniemi, situated in the district of Särkiniemi in Kuopio, was completed and started its activities in December 1998 at the same time with the Särkiniemi activity centre situated in the same site. The service home Särkiniemi offers so-called assisted service housing (night surveillance) mainly for persons with medium or serious disabilities. There are 15 places and 10 employees in the service home.

On weekdays, in service home’s own housing support daytime activities there is an average of 6 intellectually disabled. They are all service home’s own residents.

In the main building of Särkiniemi there are two group residences of four persons. In addition to a combined kitchen-living room, there is a bedroom for every resident and a bathroom/toilet belonging to the room. In the ”little house” near by there are five one-room flats for one person each, a combined kitchen-living room for their use, a sauna and a housekeeping room. In the main building, in addition to the residences, there is commune space for residents; kitchen, dining room, living room, housekeeping and sauna spaces. The area of the service home is 715 m2.

Payments (2007)

The residents’ home communes are charged for the service housing 101,30 € (group residences) or 70,50 € (service residences) per day. The residents pay a rent for their residences to the Foundation. The rent is determined by the National Housing Fund (ARA) rules (7,00 €/m2/month, in average 296,80 €/month). Moreover, they pay the service fees for the meal service they are using (max. 10,92 €/day).
